I was blessed to have been born into a family of means, love and devotion.
I lived a blissful, myopic life. That is, until I reached the university level. Having a diverse group of friends, I soon became aware of the injustices imposed upon some of them. This rude awakening was a call to action for me and my life’s path became well established.
I fervently participated in numerous “sit-ins”, “walk- outs” and marches for civil rights, equal opportunity and affirmative action. We enjoyed a modicum of success so that our fellow classmates in need would be able to have the necessary tools for school free of charge.
Upon graduation, I became a teacher. Educating young minds was extremely rewarding. However, I was yearning to make a more profound difference. I decided to change my profession, procured a BSN and became a RN with the mission of caring for all people in need with respect, compassion, diligence and dignity. I have been an RN for over 40 years.
Initially, I specialized in adult critical and emergency care. However, I soon became enamored with the precious neonates fighting for a chance to survive. I found my purpose in the NICU. I became the overnight charge nurse. I was also fortunate enough to be the Nurse Educator who worked with the staff and the families of my treasured babies. It was amazing to see how hard these beautiful beings worked to survive. It was an emotional rollercoaster, in effect. All of my sweet charges whom I helped to save and those whom I lost are indelibly etched in my heart!! I ended my nursing career as a clinical specialist.
After retirement, I found myself searching for a purpose once again. I accepted a position as a RN supervisor at a long term care facility. I then decided to return to my first passion, teaching. I have been a CNA instructor for 12 years. Luckily, 8 years ago, I was hired at the Ideal School of Allied Healthcare. This school has a strong commitment to our community and its people who need a little assistance to succeed. I found the promise, devotion, compassion and purpose within these doors. To open a door for these amazing people is the ultimate reward!
I am proud to say I am the Director of this wonderful school and we are making a huge difference in the lives of thousands of well-deserving students from all walks of life.
